The awnings are now gone and the shrubs and conifers taking back their shape the way nature intended! Slowly renovating the place; structural problems have set back the timetable by about four months, but now I am busy redoing the kitchen. The ne...

The awnings are a bit distracting, but if they're functional I'm not sure. As for the Pom pom junipers (poodle bushes) - they are VERY 50's and likely original. Some would cringe at you hating them - ha ha! I have a couple and have learned to real...

Hi, Just joined the group. I know it is many months since this posted, but do you still need help with doors? We have distribution in Toronto and may also be able to sell through someone in Mtl. We make the kinds of doors you were seeking. - Mitc...

There are some architectural door manufacturers that do solid face vs stile and rail doors. The Home and or most lumber yards are not going to be good sources for anything like this. The suppliers to contact for these architectural type doors are...

I found a source for doors in Montreal. At first the rep told me to go to a store that carries their products. I asked for a store name in my region and was then told that they would deal directly with me since they had no dealer in my area. Told ...

For some reason impossible for me to fathom, the previous owners have replaced two bedroom doors and the bathroom door with Modernfold wood accordion doors! It will be impossible to match new replacement doors to the doors of the other two bedroom...

Patrick, your house is gorgeous! Totally agree that the awnings need to go, but I hope you reconsider about the poodle-cut landscaping... it's completely appropriate for the house's era, and I personally love it. Sure hope you post more photos as you get settled in the house... I'm so eager to see the interior!

This is a great looking house! You should have closed on it by now I suppose. Post some interior pictures when you can. I LIKE the poodle landscaping ; )

Uploaded a few photos of the house on which we are closing the first week of February. It is clear that all the little touches (awnings, wrought iron flower boxes, address boards, etc) added by the previous owners are the first things to go. I hate the poodle tree landscaping and really want something that will look natural. The front door and garage door color I am not too fond of either.

Any suggestions as to what can be done to give it back its modern look?

Was built in 1959-60 and owned by the same person since then. It is a veritable time capsule inside. The owner told me that originally the house had natural colored wood above the brickwork and that it was replaced with this aluminum siding. As much as I would like to go back to wood, I can't afford the trouble and cost seeing as though the interior need a lot of TLC.

Thanks!

About Me:
Put in an offer on a home built in 1959 which has many interior spaces that look like they were in a time capsule. One owner since new and they were immaculate in everything they did.
