When I die, I want to come back as Ronn Ives's housekeeper.
In addition to the classic MCM designers (Jacobsen, Kagan, Mies, Breuer, et al), I particularly love vintage tropical rattan. Not so much all the tiki accessories, but the beautiful curvy blonde furniture pieces -- upholstered with classic barkcloth, of course.
Thanks for the comments. A bit of a nightmare at this point as the house has a structural problem overlooked by the inspector... The engineer called me today and he is busy working on his recommendations. Seems one of the main support beams in the basement was never up to the task of carrying all the load from the kitchen and dining room, let alone the snow load, of which we get plenty of up here. So the whole kitchen has been sent to the dumpster, but I can't start on the new one until the beam and its columns are replaced or strengthened, the floor is levelled and the new porcelain tiles installed. Due to many considerations, cost being a significant one, I chose an IKEA kitchen. For most of the cabinets, it's the one with the red acrylic finish, with the ones under the windows to be the same finish but in white. Under the windows the counter top should be absolute black granite and the ones for the working areas of the kitchen either stainless steel or bright white Staron acrylic. I don’t know how MCM it will actually look, but modern it will be and, if I do get the Arne Jacobson table and series 7 chairs I am wishing for, a tad MCM! I will try to post a few pictures of the mess that is the kitchen area at present. The whole house is still a work site and storage area as we can’t unpack all the boxes and china barrels until the kitchen is done and can’t repaint and redo the living room until the mess is cleared, and on and on....
Thank you so much! I have stacks of old Better Homes and Gardens and I love the small triangle pillows they used. So far, I have only found one at a garage sale and it is orange so I used it in my basement lounge area. I am always looking for more, though!
