Jody: what a colossal improvement. The new railing is so clean and cool, and very, very mid-century. Please give my compliments to your husband on his wonderful and stylish work. -- Mykal
What a cool house! Even the switchplate is original! I was not so fortunate; our 1954 ranch had a 1970's ugly kitchen which we had to replace. It looks pretty good, but not as cool as your original one. Congratulations!
My husband and I bought a 1954 ranch a little over a year ago and I am filling it with mid century furnishings, especially Heywood Wakefield. I love decorating and working on our house.
Jody, I'm a BH&G vintage issues addict too. I thought I'd share here my favorite pillow photo from the 1956 BH&G Decorating Book (one of those ring binder things they used to publish). My favorite mid-century pillow arrangement ever! I'm new here so not sure how to link/display the photo, but I'll give it a try...
Yummm, I love EVERYthing about your house, Jody, but I most specifically want to compliment you on your use of period-specific throw pillows! I'm so tired of seeing great mid-century furniture with big, overstuffed, puppy-eared modern pillows on it. In photos of original mid-century interiors, the pillows are always smaller scaled, rounds or squares (or even triangles!) with gussets and welting -- just like yours. Kudos!
